Looking for a job?
In addition to needing help during lunch, break, and after school, the library is always looking for student aides to work periods 1,2,5, and 6. If you are especially good with computers and you love technology and reading come see Mr. Fratantaro and we can talk about a possible position in the library.

Cyber Bullying...
I found this video while on TeacherTube. Tell me what you think about cyber bullying. What can we do stop it?
Destiny Quest... A virtual tour from anywhere around the world
Libraries are adapting new technology everyday. When I was in middle school you had to search for a book using a card catalog (see image left). This meant you had to be at the library and understand how to use the card catalog, which usually turned into an all day event. Now, the card catalog has been put online and the latest technology is a virtual bookshelf that allows the user to walk up and down the aisles from the comfort of their home. You can even chat with a librarian online from your home computer! Students attending an IUSD school are lucky enough to be at the forefront of library technology with the adoption of Destiny Quest. Destiny Quest is accessible from the South Lake website or you can go through destiny.iusd.org > South Lake > Catalog > Destiny Quest. If you would like more of a tutorial or if you have any questions please email me (dfratant@iusd.org).
The Library After School - A great place to get help on your homework

After meeting with many parents during parent student conferences it became clear that many parents and students did not know the library was open after school. Students who are looking to work on homework, relax and read a book, get tutoring from both the science student tutors and Mr. Fratantaro should drop by after school.

Left for Dead by Pete Nelson
I picked up this book randomly on my way to advisement because I felt like reading a true story about survival. It has many very interesting stories bundled into one very quick read (185 pages). Imagine being on the ship the USS Indianapolis cruising in the middle of the Pacific ocean and in the middle of World War II. One second you are enjoying the ocean breeze and the next you are being torpedoed by a Japanese submarine that you never picked up on your radar. You are forced into the water where you spend the next 4 days fighting off hunger pains, illusions of land, and great white sharks that are killing at will. A frightening account that you will not want to put down. Come to the library to check it out today!
